Million Deeds Challenge

As you already know, Singapore will be hosting the first Youth Olympic Games next year. The Olympic Flame will journey through the five continents starting from Greece to one city each in Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania and finally in Singapore. Prior to this, people all over the world are invited to do deeds of Excellence, Friendship and Respect and share these deeds at the Million Deeds Challenge. This is in line with Girl Guide's 'A Good Turn a Day'.

I have registered 'SCGS Brownies' as a torch bearer and have submitted a deed under 'Friendship'. Please log in and share your good deeds and SCGS Brownies may become the top contributor. =)

How to take part:
1) Go to: http://www.singapore2010.sg/milliondeeds/Home.aspx
2) At the top right hand corner, under 'Email', type in: scgsbrownies@yahoo.com.sg and enter the password. (Obtain the password from Miss Koh)
3) After you have logged in, click on 'Post A Deed' and select 'Excellence', 'Friendship' or 'Respect' for the category of you deed.
4) Type your deed and submit. SCGS Brownies will be the Current Torch Bearer once your deed is submitted.

The journey to success (CCB) -by sabrina

On 18 March 2009, some fellow P6 brownies & I went to the Guide House to complete our journey for the CCB.
From the start, we were loaded with challenges to do like creating a scrapbook on the History of Guiding, creating posters on tourist attractions in Singapore. It kept coming back after we submitted it & that gave us tons of stress. Only Cara's scrapbook & posters were perfect enough that she did not need to redo them. After much perseverance, the other CCB brownies managed to complete them and they were accepted.
Moving on, Madam Faridah kept testing us on our criteria for the "Our Singapore, Our People & Show & Tell". It was hard work but we did our best not to complain.
On the actual day itself, everyone was freaking out. Despite Mrs Teo's funny entrance( she was walking in slowly. When I called "Yo Mrs Teo!" She removed her sunglasses like a spy.When she read this, she said it was because she felt "cool".) we all wanted to scream. But after the test, we figured out it wasn't that hard after all! It was quite fun actually. We took a look at the badges board and we all nearly cried. The CCB badge was smaller than our usual badge!!!
Before we left, we had to write a report on our life in Brownies while Miss Koh kept taking pictures of us. At 11.45, we were dismissed and we headed home with care free hearts. It was finally over.

Reflections of a Sixer - by Alexis

It is always a pleasure to be helped, but it is an even greater pleasure to help somebody else. This is what we Brownies believe in. We see helping others as our duty. I have learnt how to put others before myself since I joined Brownies in 2006, at the young age of nine. I have also learnt how to be thrifty, responsible, and have learnt what the true meaning of being a dedicated Brownie is through serving others. Being a Brownie has helped me develop my leadership skills. I, being a Sixer myself, know the great responsibility that is bestowed upon us when we are appointed this position. Besides leading our Six during meeting time, Sixers and Second Sixers also conduct Pow-wow sessions, teach the Tweenies new songs and simple skills like tying the reef knot and disseminate information to the other Brownies and Tweenies. Brownies are a group of determined and kind-hearted girls who are always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. I will try my very best to be a good role model to my fellow Brownies so that they too will be good role models to the future Brownies.

Thinking Day Postcard Exchange 2009

Almost all the 60 postcards from the units that we have agreed to exchange with have arrived. The units that we have exchange the postcards with are from America, Canada, England, Scotland, Germany, Poland, Japan, Trinadad and Tobago, South Africa, Kenya and Australia. Please go to the Brownie Board on level 1 to take a look at the interesting postcards they have sent us.

On the Morning of March - Reflections by Carolyn

On the morning of 7th March, my fellow brownies and I, led by Ms Koh, went on a hike from HortPark to HarbourFront Station. It was raining at 7.30am in the morning but luckily the rain stopped before we started walking. First, Ms Koh asked us to write down the name of some of the plants and their characteristics. While I was writing, I could feel the freshness of the air around me. Next, we went to Alexandra Arch and then we proceeded with the forest walk. The walk was very tiring and my legs were aching by the time we reached the top. We were rewarded with a break and some Girl Guide cookies at the top. Soon we were off again. This time we went to the hilltop walk and later we proceeded to Henderson Waves. It is named this way because it curved like a wave. It was very interesting as there were resting places every few steps. When we reached the end, everyone was perspiring. Luckily, we took an MRT back to SCGS and it was good as there was air-con in the MRT. I was proud of myself for I would not have thought that I could finish this walk.
