Sixers’ Training Camp 2009 @Camp Christine ~ by Konstanze

My time spent at Sixers’ Training Camp (24 to 26 June 2009) was time worth spending. I traded my carefree days of computer games and swimming for the Sixers’ Training Camp. However, over the next few days, I was glad that I had made the right choice by taking the right step. This Sixers’ Training Camp has given me an eye-opening experience on what it’s truly like to be a sixer of a Brownie pack. It was a whole new building up of friendships that I treasure like how I would treasure gold and silver. Friendship is like a china bowl which should never be broken.

Sixers’ Training Camp…the true experience

On the morning of 24 June 2009, about 50 Brownies from different schools came together under the roof of Camp Christine for a 3 day 2 night sixers’ training camp. I was with my friends from SCGS at first, but we were soon separated into different groups within a short span of time. During this camp we learnt how to tie knots and lashes, and most importantly, how to work as a team and forge our way ahead towards victory at the emnd, despite of all those obstacles that we faced ahead.

There were many games and we had fun, although a certain level of discipline had to be maintained at all times. At the end of an exhausting day ,we were each given three whole minutes to take a bath and we retired for the day on soft and comfortable beds. (Um… this is my point of view…does not matter if you do not think it’s comfortable, we’re all different :) ) Wow ! I thought to myself. Camp Christine was definitely not a camp of torture-it was a luxurious camp. Bunk beds with pillows and mattress! What more could one ask for? Our bags were as light as air-we did not need to bring sleeping bags. The toilets were spick and span as they were maintained by a toilet cleaning group formed by brownies throughout the entire camp.

My group was in charge of waitressing. We had to serve food and fruits to each and every camper. It was fun, though, as we saw the funny expressions of campers who did not want to eat vegetables. We had to wash the plates too. It was an experience we would never forget as we did not get to wash plates at home. We had to do everything as a team in this camp (even go to the toilets :) )

The activity I loved most was scavenger hunting. It was challenging, as very few clues were given. I love challenging problems, so I was naturally delighted when this challenge was presented.

I disliked eating vegetables in camp. I did not like the gravy. However, I did not waste any food. Almost everyone knew that they had to consume it, not waste it. Time passed very quickly, and soon, it was time to say goodbye to Camp Christine.

Postponement of Inter Unit activity: Reaching Out to Brownie Sisters

The Inter Unit activity: Reaching Out to Brownie Sisters originally scheduled on 9 July 2009 will be postponed to a later date (most likely after SA2). Another consent form will be issued once the new date is confirmed.

GGS Carnival. An Unforgettable Experience

Ah... I still have that lingering sweet grass smell hanging in the air...*sniff sniff* The GGS Carnival was really unbelievable. If you had thought the school carnival was something, think again. Five Brownies from our school had the priviledge of being involved in the Opening Ceremony. Cara was chosen to mingle with the Guest-of-Honour: Ms Grace Fu and Our GGS President: Mrs Joy Balakrishnan. They even came to our stall to buy something! I had the best time manning the Bric-a-Brac stall. We raised to raise more than two thousand dollars. Swe-et. Ah well, I can't wait for the next event.
